Cheer:

Congratulations to our Varsity & JV Game Day Cheer teams for their performances that earned them a bid to nationals! Both teams earned 1st Place at the UCA Southern California Regional Cheer Competition. Thank you for representing RUHS and good luck at nationals!

Football:

Congratulations to our football team advancing to the 2nd round of CIF!!!

 

Swim Team:

Tuesday- Nov. 19th BOYS team tryouts:  Water polo will try out during their PE time All other swimmers will try out at 3:30PM. These tryouts are mandatory for everyone who wants to earn a spot on the team! Returning members must also try out!  

Track:

Tryouts for Off-Season Track will be held Wednesday, Nov. 20th at 3:45 pm. Please bring running shoes & appropriate running attire for the weather. Athletes will meet at the West end of the track at 3:45 pm. Tryouts will end at 4:45 pm. Please get in touch with Track Coach Matt Smalling with w/your questions - at [email protected]

BELL SCHEDULE COMMITTEE

Hello, Sea Hawks!

RUHS is forming a Bell Schedule Committee to review our current bell schedule and propose alternatives for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. 

If you would like to be on this committee, please nominate yourself by filling out this form by Wednesday, November 13 at 4 pm, and RUHS Administration will follow up with you. Please see below for details on the committee and its meeting times.

  • The committee will be composed of 5 teachers, 1 PTSA representative, and 1 student representative. 
  • The goal for the committee is to create 3 bell schedule options, in addition to our current bell schedule, by early April before Spring Break that faculty can vote on to be implemented next school year.
  • The committee will meet according to the recommended schedule below:
    • November: 1 meeting - 90 minutes
    • December: 1 site visit (morning) followed by 1 90-minute debrief meeting (afternoon) - all day commitment, excused absence
    • January: 1 site visit (morning) followed by 1 90-minute debrief meeting (afternoon) - all day commitment, excused absence
    • February: 1 site visit (morning) followed by 1 90-minute debrief meeting (afternoon) - all day commitment, excused absence
    • March: 3 meetings - 90 minutes each

Our first meeting will be Tuesday, November 19 from 3:45 to 5:15 pm in the Upper Conference Room.

BELL SCHEDULE REMINDER

There will be a change to our bell schedule on the following dates: 

 

  • Tuesday, January 21
  • Monday, March 17
  • Monday, May 12
  • Monday, June 2

 

Previously scheduled to start at 9:25 am, these four dates will now follow the “8:30 am Stacked (A) Schedule” available on the Bell Schedule tab of our school website. There will be no zero period on these days. 

 

On our school website, the   RUHS SY 24-25 Weekly Calendar and RUHS SY 24-25 Community Calendar have also been updated to reflect the bell schedule changes on the four dates noted above.

 

We will communicate reminders to the community in advance of each date.

 

CAL KIDS

To help give parents/caregivers a kickstart to saving, the state of California has officially launched the nation’s largest college savings program. The California Kids Investment and Development Savings (CalKIDs) program will help eligible low-income families with students enrolled in public school’s access college savings created in their children’s names, with seed investments between $500 and $1,500. Children of low-income families currently in grades 1-12, and newborns born in California on or after July 1, 2022, qualify. E-BIKE NEWS

E-Bike Sense is offering training at a discounted rate. 75 min.in person training learning the rules of the road, helmet and bike checks, and teaching e-bike specific drills.

INCLUSIVE SCHOOL WEEK

In celebration of Inclusive Schools Week (December 2-6, 2024), the Special Education Department will be hosting an outdoor movie night at Washington Elementary.

Class of 2025 Edison Scholars Scholarship Opportunity

Edison Scholars recognizes students who want to be makers of tomorrow – the dreamers, inventors, guardians, and pioneers – those that dare to be great. Each year, $50,000 scholarships are awarded to 30 high school seniors who want to make a difference in the world by studying science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) in college.  Student requirements:  Students must live in Southern California Edison’s service area; be a high school senior with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA; major in eligible STEM field at a four-year accredited college/university; demonstrate financial need.  Applications are due January 23, 2025.  Click here to apply.

 

Southern California Regional Occupation Center (SoCal ROC) Open House – December 3rd

PTSA:

RUHS PTSA Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive

Join RUHS PTSA, Redondo Beach Police Dept., Freedom4U, and Hearts Respond in helping others by donating canned goods and other non-perishable items such as stuffing mix, instant potatoes, gravy mix, boxed mac & cheese, dried soups, instant pudding, canned corn, canned yams/sweet potatoes, canned green beans, cranberry sauce, rice, beans, pasta, pasta sauce. All donations will go to the families of the Long Beach Rescue Mission.

 

Thanks to RUHS South Bay Food Initiative Club, items can be dropped off any time by Friday, Nov. 22 in the box located at the front office at RUHS (1 Sea Hawk Way) or on Sunday, Nov. 24, between 2:30-3:00 PM at the RBPD Police Annex Parking Lot (200 N PCH, entrance off Vincent) next to the RUHS Auditorium.

 

RUHS PTSA Sea Hawk Marketplace – Holiday Edition – Student Booth Registration OPEN

The RUHS PTSA Sea Hawk Marketplace—Holiday Edition will take place on Friday, December 6, from 3:30 to 5:30 PM in the RUHS Quad (1 Sea Hawk Way). This event offers RUHS Student Creators & Entrepreneurs the chance to showcase and sell their creations to the community. The event is hosted by the RUHS PTSA, is free to attend, and is open to the public to shop our students' booths.

Tuesday, December 3, 2024,  the Southern California Regional Occupational Center (SoCal ROC) will host an Open House from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on their campus. Students and families are invited to discover how career technical education at SoCal ROC can accelerate your future and help you reach your goals. WELLNESS CENTER

Students, join us next week at lunch in the Wellness Center on Tuesday, 11/19 with therapist Becca Rosenberg to learn all about a type of therapy called “Parts Work,” and the science behind it!  Flyer attached. 

Join us on Friday, 11/22 at lunch in the Wellness Center to learn about Brain spotting with therapist Erica Gierman.  She will teach us how it works to treat trauma and upsetting memories such as bullying or mistreatment, how to remove athletic or creative blocks, and how the polyvagal system works. 

Calling all RBUSD TK-12th grade parents!  District PTSA Council and the RBUSD TUPE Team presents the Cyber Safety Cop, author of Parenting in the Digital World.  This parents-only presentation focuses on current trends in internet safety, threats, and solutions across all grade levels and will be eye-opening and educational for even the most tech savvy parents.  Join us Wednesday, November 20th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the RUHS Library for light refreshments, resources, and some amazing information on keeping your child safe in a digital world.
