BELL SCHEDULE REMINDER

There will be a change to our bell schedule on the following dates: 

 

  • Tuesday, January 21
  • Monday, March 17
  • Monday, May 12
  • Monday, June 2

 

Previously scheduled to start at 9:25 am, these four dates will now follow the “8:30 am Stacked (A) Schedule” available on the Bell Schedule tab of our school website. There will be no zero period on these days. 

On our school website, the   RUHS SY 24-25 Weekly Calendar and RUHS SY 24-25 Community Calendar have also been updated to reflect the bell schedule changes on the four dates noted above.

We will communicate reminders to the community in advance of each date.

 

CAL KIDS

To help give parents/caregivers a kickstart to saving, the state of California has officially launched the nation’s largest college savings program. The California Kids Investment and Development Savings (CalKIDs) program will help eligible low-income families with students enrolled in public school’s access college savings created in their children’s names, with seed investments between $500 and $1,500. Children of low-income families currently in grades 1-12, and newborns born in California on or after July 1, 2022, qualify. Are you interested in a fire service career such as fire prevention, fire inspection, emergency medical services, or wildland services?  If so, please join us for an informational meeting on Dec. 16th @1pm in the library.

 

COMMUNITY

Redondo Beach Library Invites you to “Nailed It, Cupcake Edition” for all teens in the 6th-12th grade to replicate holiday and winter-themes cupcakes. No baking required and all materials will be provided while supplies last. See attached flyer for locations and date/times.

 

E-BIKE NEWS

E-Bike Sense is offering training at a discounted rate. 75 min.in person training learning the rules of the road, helmet and bike checks, and teaching e-bike specific drills.

Impact Internships Winter 2025 STEM Immersion Programs

Impact Internships is offering virtual winter STEM programs over 9 Saturday afternoons on Zoom from January 4th to March 1stHealth Science Immersion Program (H-SIP): high school students hear from health professional speakers as they learn about the academic, research and professional care settings of the health sciences field. Computer Science Immersion Program (C-SIP): students explore the changing world of technology as we hear from tech professionals and explore fields such as coding, web development, software and user design. Engineering Immersion Program (E-IP): explore subjects such as chemical, civil and computer engineering. Apply at impactinternships.org. NIH STEP-UP Summer Research Program for Juniors & Seniors

STEP-UP (Short-Term Research Experience Program to Unlock Potential) is a nationally recognized summer research program that connects underrepresented students with local institutions and mentors to gain firsthand research experience.  Current Juniors and Seniors from groups historically excluded from science are invited to apply to spend a summer in a paid, full-time, 8-week internship at research labs near their home.  See attached flyer for additional information.  The application deadline is February 15, 2025.

CALIFORNIA STATE PTA GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

California State PTA has two scholarships to help you achieve your continuing education dreams and life goals.

 

 

 

 

  • Volunteer Service Scholarship — This scholarship recognizes graduating seniors for their volunteer service in schools and communities, allowing them to register for courses at accredited colleges, universities, and trade, or technical schools. Applicants must be PTA members graduating from a California high school between January 1 and June 30 of the current academic year.
  • $500 Dr. Ralph E. White Graduating Senior Scholarship – Honoring the volunteer and public-service legacy of Dr. Ralph E. White and his wife, Eleanor, this additional scholarship provides $500 each to two successful applicants of the Volunteer Service Scholarship who intend to pursue a career in the medical field.

Don’t forget to include these items in your application:

  • PTA Name:  Redondo Union High School PTA
  • CA State PTA ID#:  4486
  • PTA District:  33rd District PTA

  • Proof of your PTA membership
  • Descriptive essay fully answering the questions asked regarding your PTA experience and service, service to other organizations or individuals, your career plans, job experience, and any other information you feel would be valuable to the selection committee.
  • Two completed reference forms and letters, written specifically for this application (first reference written by a community volunteer leader unrelated to you and with whom you volunteered; second reference written by a member of the high-school faculty).

 

Applications, reference forms/letters, and all supporting documents must be received in the California State PTA office by February 01, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. (PST).  All applicants are notified of their status in March.  Scholarship winners receive a letter of congratulations and a recognition certificate from California State PTA along with a check.

Class of 2025 Edison Scholars Scholarship Opportunity

Edison Scholars recognizes students who want to be makers of tomorrow – the dreamers, inventors, guardians and pioneers – those that dare to be great. Each year, $50,000 scholarships are awarded to 30 high school seniors who want to make a difference in the world by studying science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) in college.  Student requirements:  Students must live in Southern California Edison’s service area; be a high school senior with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA; major in eligible STEM field at a four-year accredited college/university; demonstrate financial need.  Applications are due January 23, 2025.  Click here to apply.

RUTV NEWS

CONGRATULATIONS to our RUTV crew!!! They are being Nationally recognized again at STN (Student Television Network). The STN Challenge is a contest where students have 6 days to produce a variety of broadcast and film projects based on provided prompts. This is a great contest for students of all levels to put their skills to the test in a real world, deadline-driven scenario. Winners in each category receive awards and recognition on all STN social media and the STN website.
