BELL SCHEDULE REMINDER

There will be a change to our bell schedule on the following dates: 

 

  • Tuesday, January 21
  • Monday, March 17
  • Monday, May 12
  • Monday, June 2

 

Previously scheduled to start at 9:25 am, these four dates will now follow the “8:30 am Stacked (A) Schedule” available on the Bell Schedule tab of our school website. There will be no zero period on these days. 

 

On our school website, the   RUHS SY 24-25 Weekly Calendar and RUHS SY 24-25 Community Calendar have also been updated to reflect the bell schedule changes on the four dates noted above.

 

We will communicate reminders to the community in advance of each date.

 

CAL KIDS

To help give parents/caregivers a kickstart to saving, the state of California has officially launched the nation’s largest college savings program. The California Kids Investment and Development Savings (CalKIDs) program will help eligible low-income families with students enrolled in public school’s access college savings created in their children’s names, with seed investments between $500 and $1,500. Children of low-income families currently in grades 1-12, and newborns born in California on or after July 1, 2022, qualify. CHEER

Get Ready to experience the excitement of being a RUHS cheerleader!

We have our Winter Redondo Jr Cheer Basketball Clinic on January 20th from 9am to 12:30pm. Our Jr. Cheerleaders will receive a t-shirt, cheer ribbon, souvenir, make a craft, and experience the excitement of being a RUHS cheerleader! Your National Champion RUHS Cheer Team and coaches will share our latest cheers, dances, and stunting! During the cheer clinic: each participant will have the opportunity to learn skills, train with our athletes, ask questions about our program, learn material, take pictures, and most of all have a great time with our Cheer Teams!  Our Jr. Cheerleaders are ALSO invited to cheer with our RUHS Cheer Squads at our Varsity Girls Basketball Game for the entire first half and perform at halftime. COMMUNITY

Redondo Beach Rotary District 5280 is thrilled to offer RUHS students an exciting opportunity to participate in the “Pageant of the Arts”. They will sponsor one student to participate in the art competition and one student in the vocal competition. See attached flyer.

 

CLOTHING DRIVE

Do you have any gently used clothing, shoes, hats, gloves, belts, purses, totes, backpacks, table linens, prom dresses, jackets, jeans, or stuffed animals to give away? They can be for infants, kids, men, or women.

 

French Club and AP African American Studies is organizing a clothing drive on Saturday, January 11, 2025. Drop off the items in Madame Graffio’s room 808 or Mrs. Keller’s room 827 on any day. Or bring your items to RUHS on Saturday Jan 11, 2025. Ask Mme Graffio or Mrs. Keller if you have any questions.

 

E-BIKE NEWS

RUHS is offering FREE E-Bike certification courses for the first 300 students to register. See attached flyer for details.

E-Bike Sense is offering training at a discounted rate. 75 min.in person training learning the rules of the road, helmet and bike checks, and teaching e-bike specific drills.

Class of 2025 Sea Hawk Scholarship Portfolio

Seniors: Interested in learning about local scholarship opportunities and the Sea Hawk Scholarship Portfolio?  Come to the Nest on February 3 or February 4 at lunch for a short info meeting. We have over 40 local scholarships for the Class of 2025.  Some of our scholarship sponsors include:  PTA, RBEF, American Legion Post 184, Chevron, Engineer's Council, Redondo Beach Kiwanis, Rotary Club, Friends of Redondo Beach Arts, South Bay Parkland Conservancy, Surfrider Foundation, AYSO, Redondo Sunset, Woman's Club of Redondo Beach, and many more!  There are scholarship opportunities for students attending a 4-year university, community college; various majors (STEM, Visual & Performing Arts, Business, Education, etc.); leadership, community service, athletics; merit and needs based.  Completed portfolios are due in the Nest Friday, February 21st at 3pm!

 

CALIFORNIA STATE PTA GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

California State PTA has two scholarships to help you achieve your continuing education dreams and life goals.

  • Volunteer Service Scholarship — This scholarship recognizes graduating seniors for their volunteer service in schools and communities, allowing them to register for courses at accredited colleges, universities, and trade, or technical schools. Applicants must be PTA members graduating from a California high school between January 1 and June 30 of the current academic year.
  • $500 Dr. Ralph E. White Graduating Senior Scholarship – Honoring the volunteer and public-service legacy of Dr. Ralph E. White and his wife, Eleanor, this additional scholarship provides $500 each to two successful applicants of the Volunteer Service Scholarship who intend to pursue a career in the medical field.

  • Two completed reference forms and letters, written specifically for this application (first reference written by a community volunteer leader unrelated to you and with whom you volunteered; second reference written by a member of the high-school faculty).

 

Applications, reference forms/letters, and all supporting documents must be received in the California State PTA office by February 01, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. (PST).  All applicants are notified of their status in March.  Scholarship winners receive a letter of congratulations and a recognition certificate from California State PTA along with a check.

Class of 2025 Edison Scholars Scholarship Opportunity

Edison Scholars recognizes students who want to be makers of tomorrow – the dreamers, inventors, guardians and pioneers – those that dare to be great. Each year, $50,000 scholarships are awarded to 30 high school seniors who want to make a difference in the world by studying science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) in college.  Student requirements:  Students must live in Southern California Edison’s service area; be a high school senior with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA; major in eligible STEM field at a four-year accredited college/university; demonstrate financial need.  Applications are due January 23, 2025.  Click here to apply.

THEATER

Enjoy singing and performing? Want to get involved in technical crew and stage craft? It’s time to get ready for auditions and interviews for our Spring Mainstage Musical: HADESTOWN! Auditions will be held January 9th for the dance portion, and January 13th for the singing. Actors must attend both days to be considered. Interviews for Technical Crew will be held January 14th.
