ATHLETICS

Baseball Fundraiser:

Hi RUHS Families!

Here is a delicious opportunity to support our baseball program! 

On February 12th, Riviera Mexican Cantina will help kick off our season with an opportunity to eat great food, spend time with families, and support our student-athletes.  The restaurant will generously donate 15% of your check back to the baseball program. 

Please bring the flyer with you, but if you forget it, just mention the RUHS baseball program to your server, and they will take care of the rest. They open at 11:30 am and will continue the opportunity all day long.  You can even call ahead and do takeout!

BELL SCHEDULE REMINDER

There will be a change to our bell schedule on the following dates: 

 

  • Monday, March 17
  • Monday, May 12
  • Monday, June 2

 

Previously scheduled to start at 9:25 am, these four dates will now follow the “8:30 am Stacked (A) Schedule” available on the Bell Schedule tab of our school website. There will be no zero period on these days. 

 

On our school website, the   RUHS SY 24-25 Weekly Calendar and RUHS SY 24-25 Community Calendar have also been updated to reflect the bell schedule changes on the four dates noted above.

 

We will communicate reminders to the community in advance of each date.

 

CAL KIDS

To help give parents/caregivers a kickstart to saving, the state of California has officially launched the nation’s largest college savings program. The California Kids Investment and Development Savings (CalKIDs) program will help eligible low-income families with students enrolled in public school’s access college savings created in their children’s names, with seed investments between $500 and $1,500. Children of low-income families currently in grades 1-12, and newborns born in California on or after July 1, 2022, qualify. Redondo Beach Little League-Spring Baseball/Softball Season registration still available for limited divisions. SPRING Baseball / Softball Registration.

 

Redondo Beach Rotary District 5280 is thrilled to offer RUHS students an exciting opportunity to participate in the “Pageant of the Arts”. They will sponsor one student to participate in the art competition and one student in the vocal competition. See attached flyer.

 

Redondo Beach Teen Survey

The City of Redondo Beach needs your input for future Teen programming and events. Your thoughts and experiences are incredibly valuable, and your input will help us with developing programming and events that Redondo Beach teens are interested in. SBWIB is now offering on-site career services at RUHS to help students explore career pathways and prepare for their futures! Christina Jimenez, Career Counselor and School Liaison, will be available in the RUHS Library every Monday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Stop by for personalized career support, including:

 

  • 1:1 career counseling sessions
  • Resume building and job search assistance
  • Information about SBWIB programs and internship opportunities

 

 

WIOA Youth Services – Limited Spots Available!

The South Bay Workforce Investment Board is offering paid internship opportunities for high school seniors through the WIOA Youth Services Program. This program is available to students residing in Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Manhattan Beach who meet WIOA eligibility requirements. We currently have 14 slots available! If you’re interested, please contact our coordinator, Eneida Clifton, who will conduct a pre-screening to see if you qualify. Contact details and more about eligibility requirements can be found on the program flier.

 

College Night Event…on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 5:30-7pm in the RUHS Auditorium, join Kinecta Federal Credit Union and the University of Southern California for a free college night event. This event will cover:

Basics of financial aid

  • How to apply
  • How eligibility is determined
  • The types of financial aid
  • Outside scholarships resources

 

This event is open to all grade levels but tailored for students in 11th and 12 the grade and their families. Kinecta will provide light refreshments starting at 5:30pm in the RUHS Auditorium. Click here to RSVP.

 

INVENTION CONVENTION

Invention Convention is a worldwide TK-12 organization promoting invention and entrepreneurship. An Invention Convention is similar to a science fair. Students will have an opportunity to share their invention with the RBUSD community. One winner from each grade level at each school site will be selected to advance to the California Invention Convention - Southern Region.

NEST

Class of 2026 Summer Opportunity - Eve & Bene Black Summer Medical Career Program (LA Pediatric Society)

Started in 1969, the Eve & Gene Black Summer Medical Career Program is a medical mentor/internship program.  Participants will attend daily virtual sessions or in-person programs with presentations/interactive sessions from a variety of general pediatricians, specialists including surgeons, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, infectious disease, ophthalmologists, radiologists, child life, therapists, (i.e., physical, speech, occupational, or cognitive).  There is no fee to participate.  Application Deadline: Friday February 14, 2025 at midnight.  Refer to attached flyer or http://www.lapedsoc.org/summer for additional information.

 

Online Program Times/Dates: Program 1: July 7-17, 2025 Monday – Thursday - 10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.; Program 2: July 21-31, 2025 Monday – Thursday - 10 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

Class of 2025 Senior Scholarship Opportunities (New!)

Seniors: Check out local and national scholarship opportunities through this link.  You will be responsible for submitting all required documents by the application due date.  Be sure to check this page often as new scholarship opportunities will be posted.  Upcoming scholarship deadlines:  California State PTA (2/1), Sandpipers (2/5), Hispanic Scholarship Fund (2/15), LA Military Charitable Fund (2/28).

 

Class of 2025 Sea Hawk Scholarship Portfolio

Seniors: Interested in learning about local scholarship opportunities and the Sea Hawk Scholarship Portfolio?  Come to the Nest on February 3 or February 4 at lunch for a short info meeting. We have over 40 local scholarships for the Class of 2025.  Some of our scholarship sponsors include:PTA, RBEF, American Legion Post 184, Chevron, Engineer's Council, Redondo Beach Kiwanis, Rotary Club, Friends of Redondo Beach Arts, South Bay Parkland Conservancy, Surfrider Foundation, AYSO, Redondo Sunset, Woman's Club of Redondo Beach, and many more!  There are scholarship opportunities for students attending a 4-year university, community college; various majors (STEM, Visual & Performing Arts, Business, Education, etc.); leadership, community service, athletics; merit and needs based.  Completed portfolios are due in the Nest Friday, February 21st at 3pm!

 

RBEF LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP

The RBEF Legacy Scholarship is funded through the Senior Class Gift program established by the RUHS Class of 2023.  RBEF plans to award three $1,000 scholarships to the Class of 2025.  Seniors interested in applying for the RBEF Legacy Scholarship will need to submit all required documents to [email protected] by April 1, 2025.  Click here to download the scholarship application.

 

CALIFORNIA STATE PTA GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

California State PTA has two scholarships to help you achieve your continuing education dreams and life goals.

 

  • Volunteer Service Scholarship — This scholarship recognizes graduating seniors for their volunteer service in schools and communities, allowing them to register for courses at accredited colleges, universities, and trade, or technical schools. Applicants must be PTA members graduating from a California high school between January 1 and June 30 of the current academic year.
  • $500 Dr. Ralph E. White Graduating Senior Scholarship – Honoring the volunteer and public-service legacy of Dr. Ralph E. White and his wife, Eleanor, this additional scholarship provides $500 each to two successful applicants of the Volunteer Service Scholarship who intend to pursue a career in the medical field.

  • Two completed reference forms and letters, written specifically for this application (first reference written by a community volunteer leader unrelated to you and with whom you volunteered; second reference written by a member of the high-school faculty).

 

Applications, reference forms/letters, and all supporting documents must be received in the California State PTA office by February 01, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. (PST).  All applicants are notified of their status in March.  Scholarship winners receive a letter of congratulations and a recognition certificate from California State PTA along with a check.

Student Parking-we are seeing an increase in students/visitors parked in our reserved parking lots resulting in students/employees late for school. Please note we will be strictly monitoring the parking for the remainder of the school year and appreciate all your cooperation.

 

Off-Grounds Stickers-S2 stickers can be picked up on Mon/Tues during lunch at the ASB window outside. Please be sure to have your signed forms and Student ID.
