ANNOUNCEMENTS
ATHLETICS
Hello Seahawk families - RUHS is proud to be hosting the annual Redondo Track Festival this weekend! The Festival has become a premier event within the high school track and field community, and we will be hosting over 4,000 athletes from over 100 schools. The Festival will be taking place on Friday and Saturday, March 7 and 8, and we invite all RUHS families to come and cheer us on!
Athletes competing in the Festival will begin arriving Friday afternoon, so after school pick up on Friday the 7th will be congested. There will be a security guard helping to direct traffic that afternoon. To avoid the crowd, you may want to make alternate plans for picking up your RUHS student after school on Friday. Starting guns will be fired periodically, beginning at 2pm.
Congratulations to our January RUHS Athletes of the Month…

CAL KIDS
To help give parents/caregivers a kickstart to saving, the state of California has officially launched the nation’s largest college savings program. The California Kids Investment and Development Savings (CalKIDs) program will help eligible low-income families with students enrolled in public school’s access college savings created in their children’s names, with seed investments between $500 and $1,500. Children of low-income families currently in grades 1-12, and newborns born in California on or after July 1, 2022, qualify. Click here to learn more and to set-up an account. Please see the CalKIDS Fast Facts for more information.
CAASPP TESTING
Every year, California students take several statewide tests. When combined with other measures such as grades, class work, and teacher observations, these tests give families and teachers a more complete picture of their child’s learning. You can use the results to identify where your child is doing well and where they might need more support.
Your child may be taking one or more of the following California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP), English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC), and Physical Fitness Test assessments. Pursuant to California Education Code Section 60615, parents/guardians may annually submit to the school (c/o Molly Lower) a written request to excuse their student from any or all of the CAASPP assessments. This written request must be submitted each year and include a date, the student’s full name, the specific test(s) they wish to excuse their student from (ex: CAASPP ELA or CAASPP Math), and a wet signature (digital signatures not accepted). This exemption does not exist for the ELPAC or Physical Fitness Test.
At RUHS, students in grade 11 will take the CAASPP for English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics and science (CAST). Additionally, students in grade 10 will participate in the CAST. These assessments will take place March-June 2025, beginning on March 18.
Please see attached flyer for more information.
CIVICS COMPETITION
Title: Civics Competition Opportunity
Hello, Sea Hawks!
If you're interested in participating in a civics competition to reflect on the rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizenship, see below for details!
Who?
Students in the western U.S. and Pacific Islands
What?
Annual civics competition hosted by the Ninth Circuit in which students are asked to reflect on the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
Essay or video submission in response to the topic: “When Duty Calls: Why Exercising the Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship is Important to Me.”
Which right or rights are you most excited to exercise when you reach the age of majority—18—or become an adult citizen through naturalization?
What constitutional rights can you exercise now?
Have you exercised any of these, and what has it meant to you?
Do you have plans to exercise any others?
Are there any ways you can influence the exercise of constitutional rights by adults for those rights you cannot yet access yourself?
Have you done this, and how?
Why does the contest pair “rights” with “responsibilities” and state they go hand in hand?
All students who submit an entry will be invited to a reception at the Courthouse (tentatively scheduled for May 20).
Winners receive cash prizes as well as an opportunity to attend the 2025 Ninth Circuit conference and possibly meet a Supreme Court Justice!
When?
The deadline for entries is March 7, 2025.
Contest rules and entry instructions are available on the Ninth Circuit’s website: https://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/civicscontest
